The UK ground rent market

In the UK, leaseholds typically exist where multiple dwellings share common services. The leasehold structure provides a legal framework from which residents can collectively ensure that common services are managed efficiently and effectively. For example, insuring a block of flats or providing for the upkeep of communal grounds.

There are approximately 4 million leaseholds in the UK. This has grown from around 1.5 million in 2000 as house builders have sought to meet the growing need for housing.
